Residential Utilities


The City of Commerce is a full-service utility provider, offering electric, water, gas, sewer. Not all services are available at all locations.

Setting Up an Account

Both residential and commercial accounts must be set up in writing either:

  • In person at the City of Commerce Administrative Complex (110 State St.), or

All accounts require:

  • A completed application

  • Valid identification (Driver’s License or other state-issued ID)

  • Proof of ownership, or, if renting, a completed Property Owner Agreement Form (granting permission for the occupant to place services in their name on the owner’s property).

Deposit fees vary based on the type of services provided at the location.

Online Application Instructions

The above link provides access to the electronic application for utilities with the City of Commerce. Please complete the application in its entirety.

  • The application cannot be submitted unless all required uploads are completed.

  • Upload a copy of each applicant’s Driver’s License or state-issued ID in the attachment section (if using a smartphone, you may simply take a photo).

  • If purchasing a property, attach proof of purchase (e.g., first page of closing documents or deed).

Once submitted, an email confirmation will be sent when the account has been created and is ready for payment of deposits and service fees.

  • Payments can be made online via invoice with a credit or debit card (a $4.50 processing fee applies).

  • Renters must have the Property Owner Agreement Form completed by the landlord/property owner before services can be activated.

Processing & Inspection Requirements

  • Applications and fees must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance to ensure activation.

  • Properties inside the City limits are subject to inspection by the City Inspector’s Office (no fee required).

  • Applicants moving into the city limits must contact the Inspector’s Office to schedule a no cost inspection at 706-335-4200 or building@commercega.gov.
